Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a cherished holiday to honor all mothers. It was at the beginning of the 20th century that Mother’s Day grew strong and today this holiday is celebrated in most countries, but on different dates. In Sweden, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in May. The reason we celebrate Mother’s Day later than most other countries is said to be because we are more likely to go out and pick flowers to give to our mother. The first time someone celebrated this day was in 1908 in Philadelphia, it was Ann Jervis who wanted to honor her mother on the anniversary of her passing.
Since then, Mother’s Day has been celebrated every year around the world.
